Investigating the impact of insecure inter-process communication on CSRF protection in JavaScript

Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) is a critical security vulnerability that affects web applications. It allows an attacker to trick a user into performing unintended actions on a web application where they are authenticated. Protection against CSRF attacks is crucial to ensure the integrity of web applications.

One method employed to prevent CSRF attacks is the use of tokens. These tokens are generated by the server and included in every request that mutates data or changes the application’s state. When the server receives a request, it checks if the token is valid, effectively preventing CSRF attacks.

However, the implementation of CSRF protection can be compromised if the application uses insecure inter-process communication (IPC) methods. Insecure IPC can allow an attacker to intercept or modify the CSRF tokens, rendering the protection ineffective.
