React.js serverless deployment with AWS Lambda and AWS Amplify

In this blog post, we will explore how to deploy a React.js application using serverless architecture with AWS Lambda and AWS Amplify. Serverless architecture has gained popularity due to its scalability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of deployment. Prerequisites

Before we get started, make sure you have the following:

Step 1: Set Up React.js Application

Assuming you already have a React.js application, navigate to the root directory of your project in the terminal and install AWS Amplify by running the following command:

npm install -g @aws-amplify/cli

Initialize the Amplify project by running:

amplify init

Follow the prompts to set up your Amplify project. This will create an amplify directory in your project containing configuration files.

Step 2: Configure AWS Lambda Function

To deploy your React.js application using serverless architecture, you need to create an AWS Lambda function that serves your application. Create a new file called lambda.js in the root directory of your project and add the following code:

amplify push

amplify hosting add

Choose the admin UI option to configure hosting through the Amplify Console. This will open the Amplify Console dashboard in your web browser.

Step 5: Configure Build Settings

In the Amplify Console dashboard, select your app and navigate to the “Build settings” section. Configure the build settings according to your project requirements, but make sure to set the build command to npm run build and the output directory to build/.

Step 6: Deploy React.js Application

Once the build settings are configured, select “Deploy branch” in the Amplify Console dashboard. This will trigger the deployment process. The Amplify Console will create a new Amplify app and deploy your React.js application using the AWS Lambda function as the backend.
